Who is a candidate for cryolipolysis?

A clinician shows a patient a body diagram on a clipboard during a consultation.

Put to a salesperson, the question is blunt: do I qualify for fat freezing? The published wording sets a test, and it is worth reading before the pitch begins.

The sentence that defines a good candidate

On its CoolSculpting page, my.clevelandclinic.org says: "Good candidates for CoolSculpting ® have noticeable bulges in certain areas." That is the only test this sentence states. It does not say which areas count or how noticeable a bulge must be, so those two words are worth asking about.

The line that excludes

On its page about fat freezing, my.clevelandclinic.org also says: "Cryolipolysis is not recommended for people who have obesity." If a pitch in Ann Arbor tells you that everyone qualifies, set it beside that sentence and see which one the paperwork repeats.

What to get in writing

Read the ASPS blog on the latest options for freezing away fat with CoolSculpting and the ASPS page on injection lipolysis before you sign anything. Then ask for the provider's candidate criteria in the provider's own words, on paper, with the treatment areas named.
